Nvidia just launched the largest stock buyback in history.
-
They likely genuinely believe their stock is undervalued. Jensen said Nvidia is "world's first and only growth value stock". So they're putting money where their mouth is. They grew about 100% YoY this year, and they project to grow ~70% next year at the low end, gated by supply. Forward PE is ~15-17. Companies growing much slower have higher PE…

BREAKING: Nvidia, $NVDA, is launching the largest stock buyback in US history, worth $235 billion. The company just announced that its board has approved a $150 billion increase to its share-repurchase program, bringing the total buyback authorization to $235 billion.

😂 Just my input chill, math just works better to buy at $180 a share vs $240. Can buy back 33% more shares with the same amount of money. But since they are printing money i guess it doesnt matter. Its like the lifestyle creep on people when they get raises, they stop budgeting and buying things on sale just bc they make more money. They do have…

Nvidia, $NVDA, announced a $150 billion share repurchase program.

I don’t think they’re stimulating FOMO. I think they genuinely believe that their stock is undervalued. Jensen came out and said Nvidia is the world’s first growth value stock. Their forward PE is 17 only. So the marketing is pricing in a crash without it crashing.
-
$NVDA's $150B buyback authorization is bigger than the market cap of around 84% of all S&P500 companies

Dividend has poorer tax treatment and you as the shareholder cannot control when the dividend is paid. Share BB has better tax treatment, you control when it happens, and as a cherry on top, helps management bonuses. Cue the share BB are bad crew.
-
Nvidia biggest buyback ever— $150 billion. Now $235 b.. is it active like Apple's brilliant buyback
-
I agree. Too high of a tax burden on everyday people that always get short end of stick. That money people save from taxes will end up being spent on more goods anyways.
-
No where else to put their money. Too bad at their market cap it wont move the needle. Trying to simulate retail trader fomo. Stock isn’t what it used to be.
-
Do they even need to be confident for this? They make $60B a quarter in profit and have negligible capex. What else are you going to do with that money?
-
The governments should tax buybacks, so they can only buyback shares with after tax money. Not enough tax is collected from wealthy and big corporations
-
They should just stash up the money until a market downturn then buy the stock back, at all time highs its just stupid and a waste of capital
-
You tell em boss! A redditor knows far more than the CEO of the biggest company in the planet including the board of directors!
-
That’s a massive buyback boost Nvidia clearly seems confident in its long-term growth story despite the stock’s strong run.
-
That’s a massive buyback. Wonder what the next dividend price increase will be? Either way, I’m holding.
-
Why though, buying back shares at these prices don't make sense, surely a dividend would be better.
-
I would love to see some data on how many of these buybacks are carried out in their entirety.
-
Other than MSFT, I don't think any other company pays more than $6B in dividends in quarter
