Vegas resorts have launched discounted travel packages and promotional offers, including accepting the Canadian dollar at par, in an effort to draw Canadian visitors back. The offers have proven largely ineffective in reversing the travel decline.
“Vegas has made lots of cheap offers to draw Canadians back and it hasn't worked - even offering to take the Canadian dollar at par.”

My partner’s parents live there, so we go see them periodically, and even without the Trump issue, Vegas is just not a nice place to be. I feel like I’m assaulted by ads every moment I’m awake, and like the whole city expects I’m going to just buy buy buy the whole time too. It stinks and it’s dirty and smoky and too congested and expensive. And I…

Organized crime understands sustainable business and keeping stable profits flowing in the long term. They want reliable, diverse revenue streams. Private equity only cares about making as much money as they can in the shortest span possible. They're there to extract wealth, not generate it.

That’s quite a transition though…. Living like a millionaire in Vegas to $20/day hostel in Tokyo. I stayed in a $150/night hotel in Tokyo in 2024 shoulder peak and I got a shoebox. I’d still go to Tokyo over LV any day don’t get me wrong

The exchange rate hasn't changed much. When I last visited in late 2024, the Canadian dollar was only worth about 69 cents on the dollar. It's slightly better now.

It's possible they were a whole bunch of college students splitting the room fees 8 ways so they didn't really notice.

...and how's that going for them? Seems like they hedged their bets and put their money on the wrong horse 🤷♀️

Only some of the resorts had this fee back then and it was only about $10/night. Things have definitely changed.

Its not safe and unpatriotic to go. I dont know why any of us would go willingly.
