Brent crude fell 0.47% to $105.42 a barrel and WTI dropped 0.50% to $97.48 on Friday, heading for weekly gains overall. ING analysts stated that uncertainty over Middle East supplies and concerns over Strait of Hormuz flows required "some kind of agreement between the US and Iran" to provide market confidence. Hormuz clearance had dropped to 68% of baseline (11.62 million barrels per day versus 17.15 million bpd baseline) over seven days to October 13.
“Uncertainty in the Middle East and concerns over the sustainability of oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz has the market pricing in a significant risk premium.”
