The amount of g-force generated is dependant on how far you are from the axis ( because the speed is faster the further away you are ). The size of the rotating part would need to be huge or else the "gravity" at your feet would be several times greater than it is at your head.

How I understand it, it’s a material strength issue. We don’t have anything that can withstand the forces of rotation for long periods of time. If we have anything that can, we can’t produce at scale yet

For deep space missions, is gravity by way of rotation being designed/proposed/considered? Seems a simple way to keep bodies honest with g forces regularly. Is it sci-fi only for a specific reason?

The issue is mainly cost. To have a vessel large enough to have a comfortable rotation for g forces is borderline not doable at the moment.

Sure but building infrastructure in space once means you can keep building more ships after the first.
