eh, then you get people arguing with staff about how they paid for the ticket, its their phone, blah blah blah. I dont blame theaters for not making this the default. but ive also never heard of a theater not offering a refund if you complained that people were talking/ on their phone through the whole thing

Hmm weird that the CEO of a theater chain holds an opinion that his own businesses requires be true to justify itself. Wonder if theres a conflict of interest there?... nah couldn't be, clearly he just understands Gen Z on a deep level. Just look how youthful he is.

First ask the guy... When was the last time you went to the movies? Then ask when was the last time your grandkids went to the movies without you (and without free passes?) Ask the silly marketing firm you hired to tell you that.

If you told me that whenever someone complains about theater etiquette, that said complainer is either over exaggerating or only goes to a couple movies a year and got unlucky so just assumes that’s the norm, I’d believe you

Please don't learn the wrong lessons: People want to go to GOOD films. It's not that they just want to watch any old slop. It's just 2026 has been a fantastic year for films so everyone is going.

I went to see Spiderman and the man next to me (probably 40-50yo?) had his bright smartwatch on during the whole movie and checked his phone like 5 times. It was infuriating.
