Supplier sues distributor over unpaid gas at Trump-touted Freedom Fuel chain

Mansfield Oil claims KRSM Inc. never paid for $3.9-4 million of fuel that ended up at Freedom Fuel stations Trump praised for cheap prices.

What to know

  • Mansfield Oil Company alleges KRSM Inc. took over 1.1 million gallons of fuel (~$3.9-4 million) without paying, some of it delivered to Trump-endorsed Freedom Fuel Network stations.
  • The lawsuit offers a possible explanation for how Freedom Fuel undercut competitors on gas prices, a discount that had puzzled industry observers.
  • KRSM denies any wrongdoing; the case, filed Aug. 19 in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, is unresolved.
  • Coverage has spread from Politico and the Washington Post to the Guardian, CNN, Fox Business, the Independent and regional outlets like NJ.com.

The dispute Most commenters treat the allegations as confirmation of Trump-linked corruption, while a few question why Mansfield extended so much unpaid credit to an obscure company and suggest the full story isn't yet known. · positions read across 61 posts and comments

This is more evidence of corruption, grifting and self-dealing around Trump-linked businesses.

This fits Trump's well-documented pattern of stiffing contractors, suppliers and venues.

  • “When will companies and people learn? This TACO never pays for anything—you have to get your money upfront. He and his campaign still owe several cities for extra security for campaign rallies.”

The lawsuit itself is suspicious — unclear why a major supplier would extend that much credit without vetting an obscure company.

  • “What supplier would sell to them on credit??? So far, sounds like all attempts to understand this company's ownership have failed. A supplier/wholesaler would extend credit to a company with almost no history, sketchy ownership...There's…”
