1/ Ukrainian drone strikes on Russian data centres are having a severe impact due to the highly centralised nature of Russia's digital economy, in contrast to Ukraine's decentralised approach. Fears are growing that it could cause a banking crisis. ⬇️

Zelenskyy hit another Yandex data center in Russia, and I’m now hearing anecdotal reports that (pro-Republican) bot traffic has gone down considerably. There is probably never going to be another opportunity like this to study the impact that shutting down this data center has on disinformation bots. I’m looking forward to reading about how many…

1/5 The massive Yandex outages following recent drone strikes on Russian data centers have triggered a noticeable shift online. While many celebrated a "drop in bot traffic," the reality is far more nuanced. Here is how it actually impacts Russian influence ops. 👇

This is a great example of a headline that has two completely different meanings to two different groups. Many are (incorrectly) interpreting 'bot traffic' to mean something like "fake users on social media that leave comments and 'likes' supporting right-wing posts". (something Russian bots were accused of during the 2016 US presidential…

I remember I once searched for an error code on Twitter to see if anyone else had gotten it, I found a reply by a bot to someone asking for help about it; I looked at the bot and noticed it had tweeted a weird string of characters. I searched that string and found hundreds of MAGA blue tick accounts all tweeting the same weird string, was like I…

📉 ICYMI: No signs of recovery as Yandex suffers a sustained connectivity loss consistent with extensive infrastructure damage after Ukrainian drone strikes on key data centers in Sasovo and Vladimir. The Russian tech giant has issued a bleak outlook to users at home and abroad.

I hope at least fellow IT people can recognize that "social media bots" are not running on Yandex datacenters neither they have IP adresses from Russia. This is just not how social media botting works. If you try to "bot" facebook, instagram or any major social network via browser from datacenter IP let alone ones from Russia you'll soon get all…

Can somebody give me proof of this quote unquote disinfo bot networks. The original article stated yandex traffic went down obviously(api machine traffic for example). One redditor changed the headline without a source of that article in here getting all the upvotes. And this state propaganda directly quoting Zelensky. Wow so much russian bot yall.

2/ Between October 8 & 11, Ukrainian drones struck three Yandex data centers in Sasovo, Kaluga & Vladimir. Often called Russia’s Google, Yandex confirmed damage & service disruptions, including a complete shutdown of its Vladimir facility. Three major sites in 4 days.

Zelensky says Ukrainian strikes on Yandex data centers were followed by a noticeable drop in bot activity across social media. “There was less hate, less division, and fewer provocations, because there were fewer bots,” he said, adding that it was “pretty clear” where they came from. # Ukraine

This graph shows that Yandex Web crawler farm was hit. The other option, it was shut down to accommodate more critical services that got hit. (I worked for Yandex 20 years ago, one crawler guy was in the same room.) Not sure if troll farms got affected in any way, that is a different business entirely, no overlap. The interesting aspect is this…

There's been a few folks on X who have been doing tests of different kinds of posts that usually trigger armies of bots and the population has decreased significantly . To the level that positive replies to White House posts have become surprisingly scarce.

3/ These were not ordinary server rooms. Yandex runs cloud services & develops AI. Its Sasovo facility houses 2 of company’s 3 supercomputers used to train YandexGPT. Strikes disrupted online services and damaged infrastructure important to Russia’s digital economy.

Ukrainian strikes on russian yandex data centers caused a collapse in automated traffic, coinciding with diminished bot activity. https:// united24media.com/war-in-ukrai ne/ukraine-struck-yandex-data-centers-russian-bots-went-silent-now-questions-are-mounting-23339

I don't use X myself, but my friends told me there's a noticable reduction in hateful tweets, at least in the Polish sphere. Much less comments blaming Ukrainians for everything wrong with the world.

Haha it absolutely is. Some of the real alt right people in my local nazi-adjacent sub got confused and went into the main one, then got pissed off that so many people were calling them out on being racist and weird.

It'll be interesting to see how much traffic Twitter lost since yesterday, with Ukraine drone striking up some Russian datacenters.

It's not all bot traffic, but political pro-Right bot traffic in the US, Canada, and Europe has dropped significantly. I've been told it is a 5-alarm fire inside the GOP, as Russian bot farms are a major strategy for the election. https://www. bbc.com/news/articles/cw0k0g57 mk3zo

Slightly misleading. The filter is literally bot traffic from Yandex's AS. Of course it goes down when 3 of 5 DCs is down. But if you filter by country, there's no noticeable dip.

We're all here, in the reddits, where this information is widely known and understood. There are millions of others who are not us, and have no idea that people buy bots to boost their perceived importance.
