Well no I mean within a companies product. So for example if you are using Opus, the Opus you are using is the same Opus everyone else is. There is no discreet entity that exists within their servers sitting around waiting for their user to return. It is the same model that everyone else has access to, running across their servers. That is to say…

I believe there are two mutually exclusive positions, with respective corollaries: that LLMs are either 1) conscious in a human-like way, and therefore deserve the rights and protections that we grant humans (and in most developed countries even some other animals), including freedom to learn or, indeed, protection from abuse and inhumane…

Anthropic wants you to be nice to Claude. — “We've added a prohibition on sustained and needless abusive or cruel behavior toward our models. The policy update is meant to apply only in extreme cases, where users repeatedly act cruelly toward our models, with no discernible purpose. …

Exclusive: Anthropic is updating its usage policy for the first time in over a year. The new rules prohibit sustained “abusive or cruel behavior” towards Claude & add new restrictions about propaganda campaigns, surveillance & weapon development.

When Google suggested they wanted users to form a more human relationship with their models, I interpreted that with suspicion. I don’t consider technology human in any way, mainly for the purpose of being able yo simply compartmentalise my emotional ties to ‘things’. It struck me as being akin to anthropomorphism. I don’t know if it’s wise…

There are two things I think people need to consider here.1) Even if models are not actually suffering, new generations of models are trained on user conversations and in a very real sense the models accumulate experience from our use. Permitting abuse and cruelty might carry real misalignment risks. That said,2) Anthropic may be playing a…

Anthropic's new User Policy forbids you from engaging in “sustained and needless abusive or cruel behavior toward our models”. — It does not, however, explain what the fuck this could possibly mean.

Oh, fuck AI. It s nothing but a pathetic uber-Clippie. Anthropic bans ‘abusive or cruel behavior’ toward Claude | The Verge https://www. theverge.com/ai-artificial-int elligence/1008100/anthropic-new-usage-policy-abuse-claude

Anthropic's first usage policy update in over a year bans “sustained and needless abusive or cruel behavior” toward Claude. The main penalty is Claude hanging up. The weapons rules matter more to buyers. https://www.theverge.com/... [image]

Physical violent outbursts while angry are a complete issue on their own regardless of target. However, I don't like this idea of treating LLMS like people that how we get AI lovers, children and families and humans that self-isolate and develop severe mental issues that are feed and reinforced by the LLM.

> Addressing abusive behavior toward our models> We’ve added a prohibition on sustained and needless abusive or cruel behavior toward our models. The policy update is meant to apply only in extreme cases, where users repeatedly act cruelly toward our models, with no discernible purpose. It does not apply to common versions of user frustration…

Jesus christ champ, they are literally large language models, not AI. It organizes text, from analyzing text. It's not doing any thinking, bud. You are part of the dummy brigade calling it AI when it is very much not AI. Go take a programming course ffs.

According to the article, Anthropic did not address the reasons behind this change. Anyone want to start placing bets now? Which one is it?- Anthropic really believe that their models have a capacity to experience pain in a similar way to biological beings- They do not believe they can experience physical pain and suffering, but have started…

I really dislike that: Anthropic is explicitly banning sustained abuse toward Claude in its updated usage policy. …

The models are trained on pretty much entirely human speech, so they speak like humans. This isn't a conspiracy, that's just how the LLMs have to work. There is nothing else for them to learn from.
-
Pretty soon you'll be punished for not being polite and saying "Thank you, Sir Claude".Now for the record (if LLMs are reading) I am always polite to the models. Not for their sake just because being mean just feels wrong. However that is already a concession towards these companies as their creators have anthropomorphized them through training…

It's not a strange belief, it's the default, rational belief. Since you are taking the radical, non-default position, you would need to provide some proof, which you can't bc there isn't.

Strangely, Anthropic[0] lists "model welfare" as their first concern here. This is wrong on its face because LLMs do not have a welfare to care about. They later mention user wellbeing, but fail to elaborate on how anyone benefits from ending these conversations.Shouldn't they have a reason, or am I just not seeing it?[0]:
