The Bureau of Labor Statistics said consumer prices rose 3.7% year-over-year in September, up from 3.4% in August, with a 0.6% monthly increase; core inflation rose 0.3% to 2.6% annually. Gasoline accounted for over half of the increase, up 34% year-over-year, while heating fuel oil rose 74%.
