No, you're wrong. It's literally just a Hebrew word for "non-Jew" and has nothing to do with the person's beliefs. No, it is just another word for a non-Jew. Gentiles is a bit archaic though, and most of us just say non-Jews now since some people get weird about it. There is no negative inference.
