I also avoided it for years. It's very funny, but it's also emotionally rich and eventually focused on kindness. Every emotional beat in that show is earned.

If it’s any consolation, while the TV show doesn’t cover the whole story the books are also amazing and provide a satisfying conclusion to the series. It’s one of the rare times I went TV show first and books second.

My wife and I watched the first episode of Ancient Aliens after a friend of hers kept recommending it. We laughed our way through it and my wife thanked her friend for the comedic recommendation. Her friend didn't think it was funny.
