Hezbollah received $200 million from Iran for war-displaced, Reuters sources say

Two sources say Tehran funneled the cash to Hezbollah last month, but Washington calls the claim fake.

What to know

  • Reuters sources say Hezbollah got $200 million from Iran last month, its first major aid to war-displaced supporters, to be paid out at $3,000 per family to roughly 50,000 affected families.
  • The US State Department and Treasury flatly deny the money exists, calling it a fabricated story meant to help Hezbollah save face.
  • Intermediaries reportedly charged a 20% fee—four times normal—reflecting the risk of moving money to a US-sanctioned group amid tightened sanctions and a naval blockade on Iranian oil.
  • Hezbollah has not detailed the source of funds but says a distribution plan will be announced soon; Iran has never acknowledged financing the group.

“The United States will continue to strangle Hezballah's finances through sanctions while supporting the ability of Lebanon's legitimate government to rebuild the South”

Social media amplifies claim against backdrop of Iran's oil blockade

A widely viewed post framed the reported transfer as striking given US claims that Iran cannot even pay its own security forces amid an oil blockade and currency collapse.

“A blockade on its oil, a currency in freefall, and the White House saying Iran is too broke to pay its own security forces... yet two sources say Tehran just sent Hezbollah $200 MILLION.”

    • The two sources provided no details on how the money got to Lebanon. Yeah thats a bit of an issue. Claiming they got 200 million from Tehran, through a different source than usual but unable to confirm what that source is but that the fee was 20%(so 40 mil of the 200 was just fees). So now we down to 160 mil, and the 'plan' for just an 'initial…
