PM Burnham attributes Fairford plot to Iran; Kallas expresses EU solidarity

British Prime Minister Andy Burnham said Tehran was "highly likely" behind the suspected plot against RAF Fairford. EU foreign affairs minister Kaja Kallas expressed solidarity with the UK, noting that Iran's campaign of intimidation extends beyond the Middle East.

“UK has now concluded that Iran's Revolutionary Guard was almost certainly behind the threat to Fairford airbase. Iran's campaign of intimidation and chaos extends well beyond the Middle East.”

MI5 chief McCallum warns of major shift in Iranian tactics toward military bases

Ken McCallum, director general of MI5, revealed that over the last 12 months Iran-linked operations led to more than 50 arrests in the UK, and warned of a "major shift" toward targeting harder targets like military sites. McCallum cautioned that Iran may deploy more "aggressive and sophisticated" tactics in the UK similar to those used closer to its homeland.

“Over the last 12 months, our Iran-linked operations have led to more than 50 arrests in the UK. The other major shift this year has been Iranian ambitions to come at harder targets, like military sites.”
