Apple's HomeView smart home hub skips the EU launch over Siri AI gap
Apple says the new $299 HomeView hub won't launch in the European Union because Siri AI remains unavailable there under EU regulatory disputes.
What to know
- HomeView, Apple's new $299 smart home hub, launches November 13 in eight countries but not in the EU.
- The exclusion stems from Siri AI remaining unavailable on iOS in the EU amid ongoing regulatory disputes.
- Apple gave no timeline for resolving the issue, saying only it is working with the EU on a path forward.
- Commentators note this is the first time the Apple-EU Siri AI dispute has blocked a hardware release rather than just software features.
Apple is poorly communicating EU exclusions and users are being shortchanged by the ongoing dispute.

This marks an escalation where the EU-Apple AI standoff now blocks actual hardware, not just software features.

How is excluding a market larger than the US and Canada combined supposed to make them more money? Apple just isn't that popular in Europe compared to other parts of the world. It's hard to put an exact figure on revenue in the EU because their 'Europe' reporting region includes the Middle East, India and all of Africa but their US revenue alone…

Lately european public debate is filling with "european exeptionalism" so much it's starting to bother me like they feel entitled to get a product, people don't want Apple to be compliant. Laws are made just to exercise power, with no other purpose. And as we're even loosing the "regulatory superpower" shield, public opinion will get angrier at…

Manafacturing makes up 14-19% of EU GDP, in U.S. it’s ~10%. This is not adjusted for PPP either. Your comment about tech so completely misses the point that you don’t even realise you made an own goal. US is famous for big monopolistic tech companies which actually hurt innovation. And not all innovation is tech based. In any case, you can look up…

I understand this. My question was why it applies to the HomeView but not the Apple TV.

Not having american companies spy on european citizens through’AI’ devices in our homes is just a matter of national security at this point. Why take the risk, Tim Cook stood behind Trump at the inauguration, can’t trust these companies anymore.

Cause DMA don't apply to Apple TV. DMA only apply to iOS and iPadOS. So iPhone doesn't support Siri AI, meanwhile Mac supports Siri AI.

European Union Share: Exact figures isolated strictly to the European Union (excluding non-EU European countries and the Middle East/Africa region inside Apple's "Europe" segment) are estimated by analysts to account for roughly 25% to 30% of Apple's broader European segment revenue

The U.S. manufacturing sector was approximately 7% larger at prevailing exchange rates vs EU. And yes that’s why the world is all using Sweden/switz tech right?
