DHS raid on Ilhan Omar's DC home sparks Minneapolis rally, Trump vendetta claims
Federal agents searched Rep. Ilhan Omar's Washington home over decades-old immigration paperwork, igniting accusations of political targeting weeks before the midterms.
What to know
- DHS agents searched Rep. Ilhan Omar's D.C. home over immigration paperwork her late father filed decades ago, when she was a child.
- The search came 22 days before the midterm election, raising questions about DOJ's customary 60-day pre-election restriction, which has not been publicly addressed.
- Omar and Minnesota Democrats call it political weaponization of federal law enforcement; her opponent John Nagel says she owes voters answers.
- Minneapolis supporters rallied behind Omar, and commentators argue the raid could backfire by boosting Democratic turnout in a solidly Democratic district she is expected to retain.
