I thought it would be funny to put a scorpion statue in front of my Animal Crossing airport in the unlikely event I have anyone visit. This has been a great success as I keep forgetting about it until I run past it and shout that I don't have my net out in time....

To be fair, and this may or may not be the case for the folks you mentioned, but some mortgages include an escrow that covers property tax and insurance (as mine does). Or they might just shorthand all house-related stuff into “mortgage”. I know someone in NYC with a 2k/month condo fee (which covers insurance and some utilities, tbf) and they call…

He was literally the ONE quarterback I didn't want that draft. I tried to be excited and say "hey, KOC knows more than me" which is still true, but with Kwesi there I was always hesitant about his drafting, no matter how much I tried to talk myself into liking the pick. So I guess for me it's a win/win? If JJ always sucks I can say "ha, I can…

Hell yeah brother cheers from the land of portion control discipline My personal favorite tip is if you get fast food with fries, immediately throw half the fries in the fridge. You can air-fry them or heat them in a pan to go with another meal later and they come out as good as fresh

That's fair, tbh my experience is probably shaded by the fact that I'm not a big bagel guy, but I do love a good pork roll. But it seems like I've had solid imitations in DC quite often, and even in North Carolina I found one bagel shop that was close but I'm probably not enough of a bagel enthusiast to spot the difference. I get your sentiment…

Exactly, though I don't think I can ever completely cut out booze or some snacks but it has become more of a "special" thing to do rather than "regular." If we have beer, it's usually on a weekend at a local brewery just to get out of the house. If I do get hungry later at night, I have a piece of cheese or yogurt just to have something in my…

When I was in my 20's I rarely thought about death on a day-to-day basis, but now, a year and change from 50, it's something I think about often. Not necessarily daily, but enough to feel the surge of emotion at my own mortality and recognize it for what it is. I will say this, that it's entirely biological. You can possibly master your fear, but…

The Club Fever scene in Collateral might be my favorite scene in movie history. It’s so perfectly done. Incredible underrated movie overall. Not many talk about it. Did a rewatch last night.

I went down a rabbit hole thinking about how the Yankees used to give away a full sized bat for Bat Day in the 1980s and early 1990s (Before too, but I started going to games in the 1980s). Ended up here: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/8135433/ Abstract Study objective: To determine the incidence of blunt trauma in northern New York City before…

There's an island in Upstate NY in the Genessee river near Rochester that is technically part of Massachusetts apparently I have a family member who works in NY parks development and it's causing issues

You should be able to get an antenna and watch it free. Reception depends on where you live. They have some good antennas. Otherwise you are looking at like YouTube tv/Live Hulu/Fubo, etc. Gonna be expensive

Their belief seems to be that this moment is particularly dangerous, but I'm not sure I agree with that. And at any rate, once you kill it, it's dead for both sides. So let's rip the band-aid off while Republicans can share the blame of killing it with us.

Does he like tools? If so get him something niche / nice that he would probably never buy himself An example, a high quality set of joker wrenches like wera ones or an electric screw driver What hobbies does he have? Is there anything quality / consumable you can do like very nice wine / whiskey / cigars? Maybe tickets to an event? Nice clothes…

Yeah Ive taken imitrex for two years: it work great for overall prevention and "speeding up" them up when I do get them (e.g. instead of 3 days, it lasts 5-6 hours from aura to postdrome wipeout). I also lost 15 lbs in the first three months.

when my parents were newly dating they took a trip to cedar point (my dad grew up in the area and frequently visited as a kid) and rode gemini, which had just opened a few years prior. my mom absolutely hated it, and she told my dad never to make her do anything like that again... joke's on her though because she ended up being the one to…

Still haven't seen Toy Story 5 but saw Toy Story 1 for first time in years. Woody is actually kind of a jerk but learns to not be a jerk. Also Woody and Bo Peep are way more horny than I remember. Also finally saw Devil Wears Prada 2. Its a good sequel but not on the level as the original. Also sorry but BJ Novak's character was kinda right about…

I intentionally avoided reading anything about The Odyssey, to the point where I was surprised by every casting in the movie ("Hey, that's Tom Holland! Wow, Matt Damon is playing Odysseus!") But I'm aware just from this sub that some people don't like that the movie is "woke" and after seeing it last night, I am honestly befuddled as to why. So…

Group 2 should have an asterisk for the ones that say they don’t follow the news, but meanwhile have Fox on 8 hours a day and spend the rest of the time giggling at LibsofTikTok memes. There’s a lot more of them than people realize and it’s just an excuse to not be confronted about it.

Ive been buying a book every month’ish to “get back into reading”. It’s been over ten years, I know have a decent sized book shelf filled out, and I haven’t read a single one. But hey the shelf looks nice and by god, one day…

Met my now-wife on Hinge; keep the positive thoughts! I don't know how much experience you have with online dating or what kind of person you are socially, but in an instance like this where the chemistry is really great over the app, don't get too anxious if it doesn't immediately transfer in-person. My wife and I are very awkward people, and…

I was a big dummy this year and spent out of pocket instead of using my FSA. Now I have to file for reimbursement. Getting the itemized receipts together and organized is annoying af. I’ll probably still have a few hundred to spend before the end of the month. Any suggestions on eligible items? The money disappears if I don’t spend it

I was in NYC all day yesterday for a family event. Ended up going to my cousins place in Brooklyn at night. I got convinced to stay overnight and hang out. We played zombies for a couple hours and then rewatched spiderman no way home. Man the entrance of tobey mcguire and Andrew Garfield still gives me chills Finally home this afternoon. NYC is…

That was one of the main appeals - having Steam Deck-like controls. The few times I've taken the Deck mobile (it's mostly a 'Steam on TV' device for me) the controls felt great. So, I'm looking forward to it!

They're going to happily talk about sides of their mouths as they always do. A local uber-left wing shop in KC was recently bombarded with bad Google reviews after Libs of TikTok highlighted a banner they sell that simply says "Is He Dead Yet?" in yellow, but when RBG died six years ago...
