What to know
- SpaceX imposed undisclosed speed limits on Starlink/Starshield in Ukraine starting the night of Oct. 13-14, degrading interceptor and strike-drone missions during a period of Russian missile attacks.
- Musk publicly attributed any restrictions to the US military and Trump, but Reuters and a Telegraph exclusive later reported Musk himself proposed the slowdown and Trump approved it.
- As of Oct. 17, Zelensky says Starshield access remains only partially restored and calls the disruption a 'planned operation', while Musk and the White House have not accepted responsibility.
- US senators have called for an investigation into the restrictions, and the episode has intensified European discussion of reducing dependence on Musk-controlled satellite infrastructure.
The dispute Whether Musk personally engineered the restriction for his own reasons (as the Telegraph/Reuters reporting and much of the crowd believes) or merely implemented a US government/military decision he had no real control over. · positions read across 852 posts and comments

Zelensky says Starshield access is still restricted, calls it a "planned operation"
Zelensky said Ukraine's use of the Musk-owned satellite system remains partially restricted despite earlier signs it had been fully restored, limiting drones used to intercept Russian attack drones and resupply front-line troops, while Musk and the White House continued to deny responsibility.

No, I didn’t admit he disabled an air defence system. It’s so obvious that Putin has something on Trump. It’s either the unsubstantiated pee tape, or they have the video tapes Epstein said he had. And since Musk also (at least) wanted to party on one of the islands wildest nights, there might be even more leverage Putin is using strategically.
