Epic "vibe coded" a new launcher. And got a 3rd party involved to test the launch times. They the made a post bragging about how it was twice as fast. Blah blah blah.. BUT in that time between the independent evaluations, and the story being released. Valve silent improved their performance. AFAIK, epic is still faster, but by like .5 seconds or…

Epic says it vibe coded its new launcher because ‘programming is hard’ https:// thenextweb.com/news/epic-games -launcher-vibe-coded-ai-pivot-fortnite-linux?utm_source=flipboard&utm_medium=activitypub Posted into TNW - All Stories @ tnw-all-stories-thenextweb

I really hope this comes true. I'd love Electron-free versions of Discord and Teams. I've been building a native Rust/GPUI desktop app, and the difference in startup and memory is huge.

I do not get the logic behind it, I pressed shut down, so turn the Fricking pc off. I press sleep, so go to sleep. We really don't need this fast boot, they only implemented it to act like windows boot up fast. A solution for a non existing problem if you use properly your pc.

That's great. They make billions on suckers and I get a good platform for my gaming needs. I also never felt like buying hats or boxes or whatevers from them gives any real advantage in gameplay, while other companies casually drops $19.99 playable character with OP stats.

How much are yours running at? On my end, the webhelpers that eat more than 100MB add up to <400MB on idle and 600MB after I pressed 'page down' for 15 seconds on the main store page. Compared to Epic's 950MB total just idling in the tray.

Depends on the OS. I've had linux desktops with uptimes more than a year that were fine and worked as if freshly rebooted. Macs get a bit weird a few weeks in, Windows couldn't stand a couple of days.
-
I'm used to waiting 10+ minutes for Rimworld to load due to all my mods. This pee contest about shaving off a couple of seconds over a competitor really goes over my head.
-
devs get money per download Unless something changed or I'm misreading the docs, devs are paid a lump buyout fee and it shouldn't matter how many accounts claim the game.
-
Yes. It's not a huge deal, but the people acting like it doesn't make any difference at all are kind of annoying me. You're only saying that because you don't like Epic.
-
Maybe first time, all next times its instant. If you think its not good - write a feedback. Do you forgot how painfully slow and outdated Steam was before Epic Launcher?
-
The hate is because of the forced exclusives. First party exclusives are one thing, but paying off developers to try and get a leg up on Steam is obnoxious.
-
The confidence would be from knowing the other contestants went over. If they weren’t confident everyone else went over they’d put an actual bid and not $1
-
Because article is a bait. They are comparing results of random guy on steam to multi pc results of epic games themselves.
-
Because it displays epic as bad and reddits love child valve as good (even though article is fake.
-
Would be faster if thier app wasn't so god damn laggy. Navigating that shit is a slog.
